It all started in September 2008, when a friend of mine from my course invited me and my flat mate, Pricilla to party he was having. A day before the party, I was feeling down, so felt I wouldn’t be in the mood to go to the party the next day. I was complaining to my flat mate and she encouraged me to go, and after much persuasion I agreed.
The following day, we got ready and went to the party, which was packed full of people. As I already wasn’t in the mood, I told Pricilla that I was not going to stay for long. While I was there wishing the time away, Pricilla said that she noticed someone looking at me from across the room, but each time I tried to catch who it was, they would day move out of my view. I didn’t think much more of it, but at the end of the party, a guy, Samuel, who I later found out was who was staring at me, walked up to me and started making conversation, which resulted in him asking for my phone number. It so happened that the person that was taking Pricilla and I home, was Samuel’s friend, so he ended up being in the car with us. So we really started talking from there, which happily resulted in us dating from the end of December 2008.
Although we were dating, I really didn’t think anything was going to come out the relationship, as I didn’t see him as the type of guy I would normally go for.
So the relationship was progressing, but in February we fell out and then shortly after, in March, my dad passed away so I flew back home to Nigeria for the funeral, without really saying goodbye. It was such a crazy and upsetting time for me, and my thoughts were consumed with my dad and my family, so when I came back from Nigeria I never thought our relationship would start up again. We did happily reconcile in June 2009, and he proposed to me April 2010.
His proposal was quite different from the norm. He literally turned my room upside down, and when I came in, he sat at the computer as if nothing was wrong. I was really confused and demanded to know what was going on, but he didn’t say anything. Annoyed, I started to tidy up the mess he had made and that is when I saw a beautiful engagement ring on my chest of drawers. I naturally said yes, and we got married on the 31st of December 2010. We had both a white wedding and a traditional Yoruba ceremony.
