Zach and I met at the beginning of 2009 when we were both attending the same church, and served in the same ministerial department…What started out as genuine friendship led to us becoming a couple towards the latter part of 2009, following Zach’s proposal for courtship…
Fast forward 365 days, and in November 2010, a day after we initially got together, Zach took our relationship to another level by asking for my hand in marriage with a surprise proposal…Zach and I along with a number of friends and family went out for a meal to celebrate my birthday one Sunday evening after church, unknown to me he had orchestrated the surprise right under my nose!…He embarked on the traditional route of approaching my parents and asking them for my hand in marriage, following this he roped some of my dearest and closest friends into his plans, by informing them that he was going to propose during my birthday meal, and even assigned one of my friends to obtain my ring size without me suspecting a thing…Which, I must say, she did a very good job in acquiring my ring size, by simply stating that she ‘has a ring that she wanted to give to me as a gift, but wasn’t sure of my ring size’…
During the meal Zach was very cool and calm, not acting suspicious, apart from my observation that he was engaging in a number of private conversations with a few of our friends away from where I was sitting…But I overlooked that observation, and just thought it was Zach being Zach, and his natural flair for engaging in conversation with people; usually on topics such a business, politics, sport and of course…The word of God…Once everyone had almost finished their meal, I was presented with some birthday gifts, after which some of my friends and family shared a few kind words about my friendship/relationship with each of them and so forth…Finally, Zach was given the opportunity to say few words at the end of the evening; thanking everyone for attending the meal, and that their presence was highly appreciated…Then Zach gave his own personal speech about me, and said that he had something to give me, and he asked one of my friends to bring the gift out…What my friend brought out was a cake, which I thought was nice and would add to one of the cakes I had already been given that day…But when my friend brought the cake closer and Zach collected it from her and place it in front of me it read ‘Oluwatoyin will you Marry Me?’ …
Following which Zach got down on one knee and brought out a grey box which contained my engagement ring!…I was so shocked and fell back into my chair in total surprise, I was speechless and it took me a few seconds for me to respond because I was so overwhelmed. One of my friends then shouted ‘so, what do you say!?’…And of course I said yes!
It was a great and unforgettable evening, in front of family and friends…But what was even greater and glorious was our special day…Our wedding which took place in September 2011…Surrounded with family and friends; friends from every stage of our life, and family members within the UK and oversees came to witness what was the beginning of a new chapter for our lives.
Zach and I are forever thankful to God for making our plans towards our day come to completion.
